ColorNet Press lands two "Best of Category" wins

ROCHESTER, N.Y., Sept. 14 - Twelve innovative printing companies that use a range of KODAK Prepress and Digital Printing Solutions were recognized for creating an array of brilliantly printed materials, a combined 18 times, in the 2011 Premiere Print Awards. ColorNet Press, a Los Angeles-based commercial printer, celebrated with high honors, “Best of Category,” in the Service Catalog and Media Kit categories, as well as garnering three additional awards.

The Printing Industries of America annually conducts the competition, which is considered to be one of the most prestigious worldwide printing competitions and in 2011 drew more than 2,700 entries.

The Premiere Print Awards recognize printed pieces in an extensive range of categories that demonstrate the truly diverse nature of the printing industry and include everything from school textbooks to point of purchase materials to desk calendars. Pieces are judged based on several technical attributes and degree of difficulty. The winning entries receive “Certificates of Merit,” “Awards of Recognition,” or “Best of Category,” also known as a “Benny,” the competition’s highest honor.

In this year’s competition, Kodak customers that earned honors included:

  • Bordeaux an L&L Printers Company (1 Certificate of Merit)
  • ColorNet Press (2 Best of  Category, 2 Awards of Recognition, 1 Certificate of Merit)
  • CompuMail Corp. (1 Best of Category)
  • Great Lakes Integrated (1 Certificate of Merit)
  • Hanover Packaging Company (1 Certificate of Merit)
  • Imtech Graphics (1 Certificate of Merit)
  • Lehigh Direct (1 Award of Recognition)
  • Marina Graphic Center (1 Certificate of Merit)
  • Meridian Printing (1 Award of Recognition, 1 Certificate of Merit)
  • The National Print Group  (2 Awards of Recognition)
  • Specialty Print Communications (1 Award of Recognition)
  • Vision Graphics (1 Certificate of Merit)

ColorNet Press earned two “Best of Category” awards for its outstanding work. The traditional commercial printing company received awards for both the service catalogue category for their UCLA Anderson School of Management Doctoral Program and the media kits category for their Starz 2011 Emmy Awards “For Your Consideration” Media Kit.

With an expansive portfolio including brochures, catalogs, annual reports, posters and more, ColorNet Press has already been recognized for three other “Benny” awards in the years 2004, 2005, and 2008. “We communicate our Premiere Print Awards to our customers and it really goes a long way. This is independent recognition,” says, ColorNet Press president, Nick Nejad.

ColorNet Press created both award-winning projects using KODAK PRINERGY 4.0 Workflow System with KODAK DOTSHOP Software capabilities. To keep up with the high demands of design firms, ColorNet Press relies on the PRINERGY Workflow System to move all its print jobs quickly through both prepress and proofing via automation. ColorNet uses a KODAK TRENDSETTER SPECTRUM Imager for direct-to-plate output.

Nejad notes that the PRINERGY Workflow System runs multiple proofing devices efficiently, as well as the KODAK TRENDSETTER Imager. It also sends prepress ink profiles directly to multiple presses to save time in press set ups. He adds that it is a reliable and flexible workflow that accommodates last-minute changes with ease, has unparalleled features, and is super fast, making it the perfect choice for ColorNet. DOTSHOP Software allows ColorNet the screening options to isolate elements for custom dot shape, line ruling, dot size, and angle orientation.

“We use PRINERGY Workflow daily to produce the best quality printing graphics. The color is sharp and if there are any fine lines, they come out looking absolutely crisp and clean. It is a selling point here. We are dealing with clients who want our work because our prices are very good for the high-end work we do. We offer more value and we are faster thanks to the PRINERGY Workflow System running our entire prepress process,” said Nejad.

ColorNet plans to install KODAK PRINERGY 5.0 Software within the next week. Nejad adds, “It’s not just printing. It is what happens in the prepress process. The core of our prepress is the PRINERGY Workflow System and it is probably the most powerful solution out there.  Whether it’s DOTSHOP Software or color corrections, no print job will go to press without this attention to detail.”
