Fineline Printing Group Purchases KODAK NEXPRESS SX Digital Press

Press release from the issuing company

ROCHESTER, N.Y., – Fineline Printing Group has evolved over more than 30 years of existence, continuously adapting to the fluid nature of the printing industry. Becoming a true marketing solution partner for its client base is the company's next destination. One of the vehicles that will take Fineline there is the KODAK NEXPRESS SX3300 Digital Production Color Press.

The Indianapolis-based company's roots are in offset printing, mailing, and fulfillment. Eight years ago, Fineline installed digital equipment, and as its business developed, the company further differentiated itself by specializing in healthcare, financial, higher education, manufacturing, and non-profit markets.

"Early on we built a dedicated IT staff to better serve our clients' needs for data security and that turned out to be a really smart move. Today, we are well positioned to provide our customers with a full suite of cross-media marketing services that use a variety of channels-including print," said Richard Miller, President and owner of Fineline. "The NEXPRESS Press is the right addition to enhance our digital printing capabilities."

Fineline evaluated digital presses from all the major manufacturers before ultimately choosing the KODAK NEXPRESS SX Digital Production Color Press for its well-established reliability, quality, accessible service team, and the favorable economics created by the long sheet option. The KODAK NEXPRESS SX Platform features speeds up to 131 ppm as well as a longer sheet size (26″/660 mm). At 26″/660 mm, the long sheet option delivers 27 percent more printable area. The benefits of this longer sheet include reduced waste and increased productivity, and enable new applications such as six-page brochures, posters, larger dust jackets for books, and a variety of packaging labels. Fineline is one of the first printers in the U.S. to install the long-sheet option.

"The long sheet option is a very big deal for us. We have developed specific materials for our sales people so they can effectively convey to their customers the favorable economics and new applications enabled by the longer sheet size. It's a real game changer," said Jill Wangler, Director of Marketing for Fineline.

Fineline uses its NEXPRESS SX Digital Press for a wide range of short-run printing, variable financial statements, and customized marketing materials. The company is now able to take on a significant amount of work from existing customers that previously had to be turned down because of a combination of quality requirements and short-runs that were not cost-effective to produce on offset presses. Fineline also plans to utilize its NEXPRESS SX Press in its emerging cross-media projects.

The new press will seamlessly integrate with Fineline's existing offset and digital equipment through KODAK PRINERGY CONNECT Workflow and Rules-Based Automation Software (RBA) and the KODAK INSITE Prepress Portal. The company also plans to utilize KODAK MARKETMOVER Business Advantage Solutions to accelerate productivity, increase ROI and generate higher ROMI for its customers.

"Fineline Printing Group is taking advantage of the numerous technology advancements in the award-winning NEXPRESS Platform. Like all of our customers, Fineline's investment is protected because the NEXPRESS Platform is designed to drive profitability not only today, but with the option of upgrading in the future as we create more product enhancements," said Vince Ferraro, Vice President of Worldwide Marketing, Digital Printing Solutions, Kodak.

The innovative KODAK NEXPRESS Fifth Imaging Unit enables watermarking, protective coating, color gamut expansion, dimensional printing, and Light Black HD Dry Ink Solution. The KODAK NEXPRESS Light Black HD Dry Ink Solution uses proprietary algorithms to substitute the light black for specific colors, resulting in smoother skin tones while maintaining superb detail.

Like all NEXPRESS Presses, the NEXPRESS SX Platform features Print Genius, a suite of productivity and quality control tools and options that automate tasks and help users maintain peak quality throughout their production run. The Print Genius quality suite encompasses hardware, software, and material science innovations to optimize quality and consistency from the first sheet to the last, day after day.
