RR Donnelley Gives Update on Mattoon, Illinois Facility Damaged in Tornado

Press release from the issuing company

Oct 6, 2003 -- (Company statement) -- On Friday, September 26, RR Donnelley's Mattoon, Illinois facility incurred significant damage as the result of a tornado. Thankfully, none of our employees were hurt. A great deal of work and planning has occurred since Friday evening to make sure customer commitments would be met. Over the past 72 hours, the Mattoon facility has identified the impact of the storm's damage to the facility as well as delivery dates of customer publications. Our crisis management team went into action, and a plan has been activated to ensure that customer commitments are met and service level disruption is minimized. The tornado reduced Mattoon's print and bind capabilities and caused water damage to roll paper. However, the Mattoon team has already restored much of its equipment to operation and expects to have the balance running by the end of the week. Paper is being carefully monitored and ordered to ensure its availability. Getting There Together The entire RR Donnelley printing platform will be utilized to maintain customer focus and minimize delays. When necessary, and in concert with affected customers, the Mattoon plant will spread work across a number of RR Donnelley plants including: Danville and Glasgow, Ky., Lancaster, Pa., Mendota and Pontiac, Ill., and Warsaw, Ind. Our goal is to ensure that all customer commitments are met. RR Donnelley sales representatives are having ongoing discussions with customers regarding delivery dates on shipments. In most cases, original ship dates are being met or are only slightly altered. RR Donnelley sales representatives are working directly with customers to identify pricing implications to postage and paper costs as a result of work transfer. Regular Mattoon plant updates will be available at www.rrdonnelley.com. Should you have additional questions or concerns, please contact your RR Donnelley sales representative or customer care support team. As we partner with our customers to identify viable options, we are grateful to our employees, suppliers and the Mattoon community for their support during this difficult time. Our customers remain paramount to our continued success and growth, and we are committed to delivering on our promise to help customers sell more and save more. Thank you for your business and ongoing commitment to RR Donnelley.
