KODAK Unified Workflow Solutions Drive Efficiency And Expansion For Prisma Graphic

Press release from the issuing company

ROCHESTER, N.Y., – Prisma Graphic Corporation implemented KODAK PRINERGY CONNECT Workflow with KODAK PRINERGY Rules-Based Automation Software in 2009 primarily to automate its prepress processes. Over the last two years, the Phoenix-based company realized even bigger benefits: the operational efficiency enabled by KODAK Unified Workflow Solutions accelerated its expansion into new services and led to new business growth.

Prisma Graphic, which was originally a boutique print shop, has added two successful web-based storefronts known as Dokshop and Print Power to complement its commercial print business. Dokshop serves corporate customers, while Print Power represents a web-to-print solution targeting consumers. The combination of a streamlined workflow and strong online presence means Prisma Graphic can produce more jobs, faster, and offer additional marketing services and solutions.

"We have to produce a product that costs less money today than it did five years ago," said Steve Carlson, Operations Manager, Prisma Graphics. "The efficiencies we've gained with Kodak's workflow have freed up some available time in the rest of the plant, either on the digital or offset side. We can do parts of a job ahead of time and optimize press utilization."

With the use of KODAK PRINERGY CONNECT Workflow with KODAK PRINERGY Rules-Based Automation Software (RBA), Prisma Graphic has improved prepress processes with more automation. Preflight, color management, trapping, imposition, and output to any of their digital and conventional presses are now done using a single, centralized interface and jobs are flowing more smoothly from submission to output with touch points minimized.

KODAK Unified Workflow Solutions can bring systems together into one cohesive workflow unifying business, production, color, and data processes. For Prisma Graphic, implementing KODAK Unified Workflow Solutions meant increased productivity and much-needed operational flexibility. Steve Carlson, Operations Manager at Prisma Graphic notes, "We have been able to turn large volumes of work in a short period of time.  KODAK Unified Workflow Solutions allow us to have a fast-track, accurate color-controlled and cost-controlled prepress process."

KODAK INSITE Prepress Portal System was integrated into the Dokshop website to help standardize job submissions and project management. Through PrismaExchange, a secure web portal, customers can remotely submit jobs, track progress, and review and approve proofs. With on-demand fulfillment and an efficient e-commerce platform, the website currently has 40,000 users worldwide among 200 being corporate customers.

Print Power, Prisma Graphic's consumer-facing website, was originally created to serve small- to medium-size print projects, but has grown into a booming web-to-print service featuring unique products and templates for people looking for designer-quality print at online prices.

To manage the complex color relationships between devices, formats and platforms print color quality, Prisma Graphic also installed KODAK COLORFLOW Software. The software enables their customers to get rich colors without losing details and critical proofs are now matching at press. For Prisma Graphic, make-ready times are at least 25 percent faster than they used to be thanks to the help of KODAK COLORFLOW Software.

"Prisma Graphic is an excellent example of a traditional commercial printer using KODAK Unified Workflow Solutions to sustain its growth trajectory. The company has been able to implement these new high-value services and has done a great job getting its customers on-board in such a short time frame," said Nick Benkovich, Worldwide Director of Integrated Solutions and Technologies, Kodak.

For the past four years, Prisma Graphic has been named the number one print shop in Arizona. With two new storefronts in place, the company is reaching annual revenues approaching $30 million.
