Domtar Becomes Member of Partnership Against Terrorism Program

Press release from the issuing company

MONTREAL, Oct. 2 - Domtar Inc. announced today it was accepted by the United States Bureau of Customs and Border Protection as a certified member of the Customs and Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C- TPAT) program. The purpose of this program is to ensure the security of the Canada-United States border while at the same time ensuring the continued flow of international trade. "Domtar is very much dependent upon free and unhindered trade. In order to sustain its financial performance, Domtar is fully committed to always providing customers with the best service possible including "just-in-time" deliveries. Our participation in the C-TPAT program is another step in our continuing commitment to provide our customers with timely and reliable supply of our products," stated Hubert Pelletier, Vice-President, Procurement. A primary objective of the C-TPAT program is to protect and secure manufacturing facilities from outside threats. Companies and facilities accepted into the program must adhere to rigorous requirements and extensive documentation of both incoming raw materials and outgoing finished products to ensure that finished products remain safe and secure. Shipments from an approved C-TPAT facility can be expedited when crossing the border into the United States. Accreditation involved submitting for review Domtar's Supply Chain Profile to the Bureau of Customs and Border Protection. This undertaking required a thorough review of all operations in facilities throughout the Company and development of a detailed action plan. The implementation of this action plan will modify business practices. These changes include greater use of fencing to secure access to facilities, installing strategically located lighting and cameras where appropriate, using positive identification card systems and standardizing procedures for vehicles entering and exiting our facilities. Domtar will also provide employees with complete training on security related issues as well as its obligations under the C-TPAT program.
