Kodak and Sun Automation address packaging market

Press release from the issuing company

Birmingham, UK - Built on KODAK VERSAMARK Printing Systems technology, the new CorrStream High-Speed Digital Printer from Sun Automation is the first product of its kind designed specifically for the corrugated packaging industry. The CorrStream Printer is a result of a product development and commercialization agreement between Kodak and Sun Automation and is part of Kodak's plan to extend the application of its core technologies into a variety of targeted markets.

Running at production speeds of up to 500 fpm, the CorrStream High-Speed Digital Printer provides 45 inches of color print area across a corrugated sheet up to 60 inches wide. The printer utilizes up to 20 KODAK VERSAMARK DH90 Printheads to produce color images suitable for corrugated applications such as point-of-purchase displays and versioned or variable primary and secondary graphic image packaging.

Jeff Peterson, President, Sun Automation, noted: "Introducing digital inkjet technology to this market makes it possible to reduce lead times, provide mass customization, and reduce overall costs. Kodak's proven inkjet technology is an ideal foundation for this revolutionary new corrugated printer, and will help us enhance our product line and meet the needs of our customers."

The CorrStream Printer is targeted at brand owners and corrugated box plants looking to enhance the production of individual or bulk packages as well as point-of-purchase displays. With a digital solution, brand owners can produce smaller runs of versioned or customized local packaging that connects with consumers and drives a much higher ROI.

"Kodak offers a number of production solutions in the packaging market, and by partnering with Sun Automation, we are able to implement our inkjet technology in additional solutions," said Mike Marsh, General Manager, Inkjet Printing Solutions, Kodak. "We are excited by the growth opportunities in this area."
