San Diego Printer Selects KODAK All-in-One Package as Entry Into CTP Market

Press release from the issuing company

ROCHESTER, N.Y., June 18 -- VIP Printing marked its switch to computer to plate (CTP) with reduced makeready costs and improved output quality. The San Diego, Calif. based printer purchased the KODAK All-in-One CTP Package, which includes KODAK PRINERGY EVO Workflow System, KODAK MATCHPRINT Inkjet Proofing Solution, KODAK MAGNUS 400 Platesetter and KODAK THERMAL DIRECT Plates.

“After looking into a number of different solutions, evaluating plate samples and hearing positive comments from others who use KODAK solutions, we decided that the All-in-One package would be a perfect fit for our company as we transitioned to CTP,” said Richard Gordon, President, VIP Printing. “We have saved 30 to 40 percent on makeready costs, and speed is twice as fast as it was before. We were also attracted to the environmentally friendly aspect of the THERMAL DIRECT plates.”

KODAK THERMAL DIRECT Non Process Plates develop on press, eliminating the costs associated with standalone processors, including maintenance, chemistry and chemistry handling, and floor space requirements. Customers save time and reduce variability by decreasing the number of steps in prepress. In addition, THERMAL DIRECT Non Process Plates are compatible with all popular thermal computer to plate imagers and a wide range of inks and fountain solutions. “We noticed an amazing difference in terms of screening,” noted Gordon. “The black is blacker while the screens stay nice and open—a classic example of the advantages of the KODAK system.”

The KODAK MAGNUS 400 Platesetter is a productive 4 page CTP device using Kodak’s Thermal Imaging Technology to deliver high throughput, efficient plate handling, and ease of use for commercial printers. The platesetter images 16 or 21 plates per hour with an optional advanced automation.

KODAK PRINERGY EVO Software is an affordable PDF workflow system for controlling prepress, plate and film production, and digital print output. Based on proven PRINERGY PDF processing and JDF, PRINERGY EVO is a powerful system featuring advanced normalizing, color management, trapping and screening options. PRINERGY EVO Software delivers the features and functionality needed to increase efficiency and reduces the cost of production. It features flexible, customizable configurations to support commercial, publishing, newspaper and packaging solutions.

The KODAK MATCHPRINT Inkjet Proofing Solution brings the next level of workflow connectivity and color precision to drop on demand (DOD) inkjet proofing. The MATCHPRINT Inkjet Proofing Solution is the first DOD proofing solution to be based on powerful Kodak-developed software, including innovative screening and calibration technologies. The MATCHPRINT Inkjet Proofing Solution incorporates KODAK COLORFLOW Technology for seamlessly communicating, controlling and confirming color across multiple devices. Certified Processes for color confirmation within the COLORFLOW Technology platform ensure that a proof is generated according to in house or industry color guidelines. It also confirms that the correct profile was used and that the proofing system was correctly calibrated.
