Kodak to Debut New Printing and Workflow Solutions at Print 05
Press release from the issuing company
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – August 3, 2005 – Print providers looking for ways to expand and enhance their businesses need look no further than Kodak at the Print 05 exhibition, September 9-15 at Chicago's McCormick Place. In booth #6707, Kodak will display a comprehensive portfolio of products and services designed to address the needs of print operations from business management to prepress to the press room with technology ranging from digital capture, workflow and proofing to advanced digital printing and offset equipment.
“The graphic communications industry is in a period of transformation and print providers will gather in Chicago to seek new ways to streamline workflows, deliver high-value services and enhance business operations,” said Jim Langley, President, Graphic Communications Group (GCG) and Senior Vice President, Eastman Kodak Company. “At Print 05, customers visiting Kodak will be able to find solutions to help grow their businesses, in one place, with one company.”
At Print 05, Kodak will introduce a number of significant new innovations, including:
Business Workflow – The KODAK Enterprise Management Solution (EMS), a complete business workflow solution for the graphic communications industry, is designed to allow printers to increase business efficiency and boost profitability. At the core of KODAK EMS software is a robust manufacturing enterprise resource planning software (ERP) solution. By customizing this solution for the graphic communications industry and incorporating original development, KODAK EMS software is able to meet the unique needs of the print industry, with capabilities to deal with complex environments such as digital print workflows, fulfillment and mailing operations, among many other functions.
Digital Printing – Kodak will unveil major advancements for its KODAK NEXPRESS digital color production printing solutions. The advancements provide increased flexibility and productivity, as well as expanded capabilities for a broader range of applications, building on Kodak’s award-winning digital production press technology that has been the foundation of a wide variety of digital color printing businesses around the world since its launch at Print 01.
Plates – The THERMAL DIRECT Non Process Printing Plate will be commercially available beginning at Print 05. The THERMAL DIRECT plate is designed to help small- to medium-sized general commercial printers increase productivity by eliminating plate processing step and the requirement to store, use and dispose of associated chemicals. Removal of the traditional processing stage shortens the platemaking cycle, reduces time to press and increases production throughput possibilities.
Business Development – At Print 05, Kodak will debut a comprehensive business development program, an expansion of a proven combination of marketing and promotional resources with experienced consultants focused on helping customers effectively manage, promote and expand their digital printing businesses.
Kodak’s booth at Print 05 will highlight products and solutions to address the entire print workflow. Kodak will feature innovative solutions and services, demonstrated on the stand as integral parts of real-world workflows for marketing and publishing applications.
Highlights will include the company’s three winners of 2005 GATF InterTech Technology Awards: KODAK NEXPRESS fifth imaging unit solutions, KODAK COLORFLOW Custom Color Tools, and PDF Compare and PDF Merge. The booth also will showcase the KODAK VERSAMARK VX5000e continuous inkjet printing system, the KODAK NEXPRESS digital production color press, the KODAK DIGIMASTER E125 digital production system, the newly announced KODAK 1200i wide-format inkjet printing system, and a range of prepress and color management systems.
A highlight of the booth will be a demonstration of a Müeller-Martini Concepta hybrid offset/digital press featuring Kodak Versamark’s continuous inkjet technology, which makes possible new capabilities for in-line customization and micro-versioning for large volume direct mail and other commercial printing markets. The press uses two high-speed KODAK VERSAMARK D-series printheads, the DH91 and DH6240, to print variable data information in-line with four-color offset printing to create high-value, highly personalized printed documents at speeds of up to 1,000 feet per minute at an incredibly low cost per page.
Kodak also will showcase Versamark’s continuous inkjet technology in the Mailing and Fulfillment Pavilion, Booth #3089, with products from the D-series product portfolio, the DS4350, DS7122, DS5240 and the DS6240. There, Kodak will demonstrate a complete mailing workflow, including envelope addressing, automated scanning and plastic card tipping and imprinting. KODAK technology also will be on display at dozens of partner booths around the show floor.
“We have made tremendous progress this year in delivering on our vision,” Langley said. “At Print 05, the industry will see Kodak as a full-service partner and a technology innovator that will deliver the products that print providers need to succeed—today and far into the future.”
