Enovation to Resell Xerox DocuColor Print Systems to Printers (More analysis and comments from Dr. Joe Webb)

Press release from the issuing company

VALHALLA, N.Y.-- May 12, 2003 -- To further penetrate the commercial printing market, Enovation Graphic Systems, Inc., a Fujifilm company, today announced it has signed a reseller agreement with Xerox to sell Xerox's highly successful line of high-end digital color presses in the graphic arts market. Enovation, a leading distributor of equipment, consumables, and technical services to the graphic communications industry will immediately begin selling Xerox DocuColor 2045, 2060 and 6060 digital color presses to commercial printers and prepress companies. The DocuColor 2000 and 6060 Series presses are the best-selling systems in their class serving the on demand print needs of commercial and in-plant printers and quick-print professionals. The presses offer print speeds of 45 and 60 pages per minute. "Xerox has a proven track record of delivering the most advanced digital color presses to the graphic arts industry," said Jim Mullan, Vice Chairman, Enovation Graphic Systems, Inc. "Our goal is to provide our customers with quality products that span the entire digital workflow process. By joining with Xerox we are now better able to do this, offering our customers the best brand in the market. We know the commercial printing market very well and have served our clients in it for over 135 years. This knowledge, combined with our own dedicated Xerox sales specialists, enhances our opportunities for adding value to our customers with these unique products." "This agreement will extend our leadership position, allowing more commercial printers to see how today's new generation of digital color presses can help build page volume and grow revenue," said Gil Hatch, president, Xerox Production Systems Group. ------ WhatTheyThink.com was told yesterday by Enovation that it is a reseller to commercial printers and prepress companies within designated Xerox territories. Enovation will have a selling exclusivity in these target accounts that were previously called on by Xerox direct sales representatives dedicated to the United States commercial printing market. Enovation will utilize a dedicated digital press sales force supplemented by its nationwide graphic arts and electronic imaging sales force of over 250 professionals. We will have more on this announcement soon. ----- Free WTT Analysis: Below is a quick take on this news from Dr. Joe Webb. Premium Access Members can view more analysis in his weekly column on Friday, appropriately called “Fridays with Dr. Joe”. "The Xerox/Enovation announcement may be a good deal for both companies. The affected products are sufficiently far along in their life cycle that a channel shift can be made, and both companies have a congruence of economic and market needs which make this arrangement logical. Xerox needs demonstrable hands-on understanding of the commercial print business, and Enovation needs a more logical foothold in the technologies that replace traditional print. "While the blending of a digital print manufacturer and graphic arts supplier was attempted in the past with less than stellar results (Xeikon and PrimeSource), Xerox is stepping into the Enovation relationship with a mature market-proven product set."
