RR Donnelley Extends Use of EFI Prograph Planning Software to 27 Plants, Adds Contract Billing Applications
Press release from the issuing company
Foster City, Calif. – July 17, 2007 – EFI, the world leader in color digital print servers, superwide format printers and inks, and print management solutions, today announced that R.R. Donnelley & Sons Company will expand its implementation of EFI Prograph, bringing the total to 27 facilities using the production planning system as their magazine, catalog, directory and retail insert manufacturing platform. In addition, RR Donnelley has worked with EFI to develop a first of its kind system in the printing industry that allows a printing company to administer customer contracts and create invoices based upon these contracts and job planning data in Prograph.
Prograph offers powerful, comprehensive planning capabilities – including versioning, complex imposition and distribution tools – that allow printers to make more informed business decisions and streamline their production process. “We standardized on Prograph at 14 of our plants two years ago and have been extremely happy with the results, so it was a natural next-step to roll it out to the rest of our facilities,” said Dan Knotts, Group President of RR Donnelley.
RR Donnelley was also impressed with the new Contract Billing module for Prograph, which allows them to represent long-term contract pricing they have in place with clients, a common practice for publication printers. The system then helps them generate the invoices based on these contracts using the planning data in Prograph.
“EFI’s approach to building contracts and then applying these for either pro-forma estimates or live invoices was truly revolutionary,” said Troy Reed, Group CFO of RR Donnelley. “We were impressed enough with their approach that we agreed to partner with them to help finish the application. We will soon go live with the application and expect this to really help streamline our billing process.”
“Prograph has proven to be a vital business system for the largest printing company in the world, and we’re excited to expand its reach within RR Donnelley while adding our new Contract Billing module to their operations,” said Marc Olin, senior vice president/general manager, EFI Advanced Professional Print Software (APPS). “RR Donnelley is EFI’s largest Prograph installation to date.”
