Agfa shuts down its Bushy Park site as part of its plan to optimize the global cost base of its film activities
Mortsel, Belgium – Agfa today announced that it decided to shut down its film finishing site in Bushy Park in South Carolina, USA in order to consolidate its finishing activities mainly at the Mortsel site in Belgium.
The decision is another step in Agfa’s global plan to optimize the cost base of its traditional film activities, aligning them with market realities. Earlier this year, Agfa announced the closure of its facility in Schrobenhausen (Germany) and the signing of an agreement with its social partners in Belgium on the reorganization of the film-related activities at its site in Mortsel.
The Bushy Park facility counts 61 employees. Until now, the site was responsible for a quarter of Agfa’s finishing activities. Bushy Park does the finishing for medical hardcopy film and film for non-destructive testing (NDT).
The finishing of hardcopy film at Bushy Park will continue until the end of June 2025, while NDT activities will conclude at the end of August 2025. The majority of these finishing activities will shift to Agfa’s Mortsel site in Belgium, with some volumes shifting to China, the main end market for film.
“This decision is an important step in our global plan to optimize the cost base of our traditional film-related business. Indeed, evolving market dynamics have made it clear that consolidating our finishing activities into a smaller number of facilities is essential for the sustainable profitability of this business. We assure our customers that there will not be any disruption in delivery at any time. Furthermore, we fully recognize the significant impact this decision has on our colleagues at Bushy Park. We are committed to supporting each team member throughout this transition,” said Pascal Juéry, President and CEO of the Agfa-Gevaert Group.
Agfa will ensure that the closure of the Bushy Park site adheres to local regulations and occurs in close collaboration with the local works council.
