Imation Showcases Travan FireWire 20GB Tape Drive at PCExpo 2001
Press release from the issuing company
NEW YORK--June 26, 2001--Imation Corp., a leader in data storage and information management, today announced it will showcase the new Travan FireWire 20GB Tape Drive for PC and Macintosh computers at PCExpo in New York, June 26-28, 2001, in Booth No. 3322.
Designed for digital video and graphic art professionals, the Travan FireWire 20GB Tape drive is ideal for backing up "in-process'' files as well as archiving completed projects. Additionally, the 20GB compressed capacity provides the perfect solution for backing up high capacity hard drives without the user intervention required with lower capacity removable media products. Bundled with Dantz Retrospect Desktop software version 5.5, the Travan FireWire 20GB Tape Drive is now compatible with 1394/iLink-enabled PCs running Windows 98SE, 2000 or ME, as well as FireWire-enabled Macintosh Computers, including G3, G4, PowerBook, iBook, and iMac DV computers.
By combining the speed of FireWire with the vast storage capacity of Travan technology, the Travan FireWire 20GB Tape Drive delivers a world-class solution for backing up digital video, graphics and other storage-intensive applications. Travan technology, based on linear recording, represents a more efficient cartridge and drive design that reduces tape stress, ensures data integrity and increases drive and cartridge reliability.
"Digital video and graphic art professionals have unique data storage needs that are not fully addressed by traditional data storage drives. Not only do they require fast retrieval of information, but also the ability to store their information ''in-process" or as completed projects,'' said Kent Schoenherr, program manager for Imation's Data Storage and Information Management business. "By extending the reliability and proven data backup capabilities of Travan technology to millions of Mac and PC computers, users can retain files in project form for future editing without reloading original raw digital video.''
The FireWire interface is one of the fastest peripheral standards and is well suited for use with multimedia peripherals such as video camcorders and other high-speed devices like the latest hard disk drives and printers. The Imation Travan FireWire drive delivers up to 120MB per minute (compressed) transfer rate.
"IEEE 1394/FireWire is quickly emerging as a new standard for fast, reliable connections to storage devices,'' stated Larry Zulch, CEO of Dantz Development Corporation. "With the Travan FireWire 20GB Tape Drive, Imation, a long-time leader in PC storage technology and products, has hit the mark in all three critical areas: capacity, performance, and price. This is a winning product.''
Bundled with Dantz Retrospect Desktop Backup version 5.5 -- one of the best backup software packages available for PC users, the new drive works with Imation's widely available and easy-to-use Travan 20GB Tape Cartridges.
The Travan FireWire 20GB Tape Drive will be available in July at a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $499.99 (actual pricing may vary). Imation Travan 20GB Cartridges are available for estimated street price of $33.99.
