Press release from the issuing company
Schaumburg, IL – The design entry from Jackie O’s Brewery for Mystic Mama West Coast Style IPA has won the fifth annual Colored by INX Can Design Contest. The winner was determined in a voting process involving a group of five independent judges and the public via INX International’s Facebook and LinkedIn social media pages.
The other four design finalists included Ardagh Group’s, Zombie Ice Undead Double Pale Ale; Ball Corporation’s pair of Elysian Brewing Dragonstooth’s Stout and Voodoo Ranger Fruit Force IPA; and Olberding Brand Family’s, Lost Coast Brewery Stargaze Wit.
The design, marketing, and sales teams of Jackie O’s Brewery crafted the winning design in collaboration with Bryn Perrott, a distinguished West Virginia woodcut artist. Erica Mirth, the Head of Design for the Athens, Ohio, brewery said Mystic Mama is a celebration of craftsmanship, deep heritage, and the power of storytelling where the artwork adorning the can invites drinkers into a world where tradition meets artistry.
“Mystic Mama is our flagship West Coast style IPA. It stands as a testament to bold flavor and rich narrative, and it called for packaging to capture that essence,” said Mirth, who joined the company in 2018. “Mystic Mama has been a heartfelt homage to the memory of Jackie Oestrike, the eponymous matriarch of Jackie O’s. Each can is adorned with imagery drawn from the mystical and matriarchal realms, echoing the spirit of its inspiration.”
The contest required designers to produce a commercial can design before January 1, 2024 using at least one color from the INX Color Catalog. Mirth said having the metal decoration industry’s only true color standard to choose from nearly 650 color metal swatches provided peace of mind, assuring each color was accurate and consistent.
“The INX Color Catalog is an incredibly beneficial tool that helps our team streamline the design process, from ideation to production,’ she confirmed. “We wanted to select a bold and regal color palette for this design, and the extensive selection of colors within the catalog allowed us to select hues that were the perfect balance of striking and majestic. The physical color swatches and the INX digital color library ensured we had the perfect palette. It brought our enchanting vision to life in a way that both wows our customers and proudly stands as a lasting tribute to the woman behind the Jackie O’s name.”
In addition to bragging rights as the contest champion, the team at Jackie O’s Brewery will receive an engraved trophy and industry recognition, including a feature article in INX’s Color Perfection Magazine. INX also wants to recognize and thank this year’s judges. The panel of brand designers, color, and printing representatives included Scott Drucker, Alex Fordham, Sarah Jacks, Raul Martinez, and Marshall Thompson.
