Phoenix Challenge Foundation Mourns and Celebrates Diann Teague

Press release from the issuing company

An advocate - A friend - An inspiration

Charlotte, NC. – The Phoenix Challenge Foundation, mourns the loss of a pivotal figure in education and a true inspiration to many who are devoted to the progress of young students and their success. As a long serving educator and leader at the Applied Technology Center in Rock Hill, NC, Diann impacted more lives than most will ever know, and was “the” inspiration behind the Phoenix Challenge which started a movement across flexo in education. She passed on July 13, 2022 surrounded by family. Obituary details

“Diann Teague was one of those people the world was lucky to have. Her vibrant devotion to education and dedicated support of every student she encountered radiated from her so vibrantly. I so deeply appreciate her friendship, support and mentorship. The world needs more Diann Teagues,” stated Bettlyn Krafft, Chairman of the Phoenix Challenge Foundation.

Before the Phoenix Challenge Foundation (PCF) was even a thought or idea, Diann took the lead in establishing the original Flexo High School Skills Competition for flexography skill, technical education and mathematics. As only Diann would do, once the seed was planted she went on and pursued the first High School Skills program. It was initiated in 1997 with great success all because of the persistence, perseverance and tenacity of Diann Teague, a true prophet and instrument for success of a program that has now grown beyond anyone’s vision. Today the Phoenix Challenge Foundation encompasses High School Skills Competition and the 15-year-old College Competition. It has exposed more than 5,000 students to flexo technology, awarded over $60K in scholarships and has witnessed several hundred young adults make their way into careers across the entire flexo and package printing industries.

The Phoenix Challenge Foundation has been proud to honor Excellence of Education through the Diann Teague Award, presented to her first in 2007. Since then, this award is presented to the instructor who guides the winning High School Skills competition team each year, recognizing their own excellence in education, just like Diann. This award has been presented at the High School Skills Competition each year since 2008. It is a true honor to the PCF Foundation to have established this award and they are more deeply honored and committed to continuing Diann’s legacy through this award far into all future High School skills competitions.

With the coordination and support from Ron & Katherine Harper, founders of Harper Corporation; and the Flexographic Technical Association (FFTA), the Phoenix Challenge Foundation’s inception was a continuation of Diann’s legacy. The Phoenix Challenge Foundation will continue to expand and grow, building upon its mission of “Developing tomorrow’s workforce” with the heritage of Diann Teague as inspiration.
