Editor and Publisher magazine will shut down by the end of the year according to an internal Nielsen Business Media memo published on Poynter Online.

Nielsen Business Media just closed a deal with an investment group selling Hollywood Reporter, Billboard, Adweek, Brandweek, Mediaweek, and a number trade shows. Editor and Publisher was not included in the deal.

Alan D. Mutter on his Reflections of a Newsosaur blog makes a good point,

“With the pending shutdown of the authoritative trade magazine and the reduction in the last few years in the number of securities analysts covering publishing, there will be scant independent reporting and commentary on the troubled industry at a time it most needs objective and honest feedback.”
