Thoughts about the Realities of NEXPO and the Survival of the Daily Newspaper Part 1

After the liveliest ISA (Sign) expo that anybody has seen in the last 15 years, spending a few days at Nexpo was a jolting reminder that the print industry's robustness is sharply divided by sectors. It was said that it was busy on Saturday, but Sunday was barely busy and Monday was even quieter.  At all but one booth, all we heard was how disappointing sales had been.  This comment came from all sides of the market, from pre-media all the way to post press.  Only one vendor said the show had been great, but then, they had sold a few systems on Saturday, a salesman told us!

Beyond noting above obvious malaise in the newspaper sector, which, strangely, some at the show sought to ignore or deny, we'd also like to talk about the other big discussions and the more interesting products that we encountered.  At THE EAGLE, we don't provide show reviews; we deliver opinion about the key messages as we see it.  So, here goes...
