Inside VistaPrint’s Patent Infringement Suit, Comments from Robert Keane and an IP expert

On May 14, VistaPrint Technologies (NASDQ VPRT) filed suit against two Taylor Corporation subsidiaries, 123Print, Inc., and Drawing Board Inc., for patent infringement. The three patents – “Computerized Prepress Authoring for Document Creation” (#6,247,011), Browser-Based Computerized Prepress (#6,631,375), and “Computerized Prepress” (7,120,634) – are part of a portfolio of 13 US patents that the company holds.

The VistaPrint complaint reminds us once again that computerized workflow is becoming a way of life! By implementing automated workflows, print service providers are able to make the process of manufacturing print more efficient and less costly. At the same time, these automated processes remove the artisanal variability from the process and make the production of print-ready files faster and more accurate.
