Through Strategic Acquisitions, Fuji Photo Film Equips Itself For Technological Dominance of Inkjet Consumables Market

The announcement that Fuji Photo Film (Fujifilm) has agreed to acquire Dimatix Inc. is one of the most interesting developments this year. For many people, Dimatix is an unknown company. It is a developer and manufacturer of industrial inkjet printheads, precision micropumps, materials deposition and specialized print systems. Dimatix was formerly known as Spectra Inc., the name by which its printheads are known. In the inkjet industry Spectra and Xaar are the two largest suppliers of industrial drop-on-demand printheads.

It appears that Fuji Photo Film intends to be one of the world’s leading suppliers of consumables for the inkjet printing market. Fuji now has within its organization manufacturers of all key elements for current and future inkjet inks and fluids.

What is interesting is looking at what this acquisition will mean. In January 2004 Fujifilm marked the 70th anniversary of its founding and announced its Vision75 medium-term management plan to shape the company in time for its 75th anniversary in 2009. Part of this plan articulates the building of new growth strategies for its principal businesses, electronic imaging, flat panel displays and document solutions.
