Discussing the details of the deal: Marc Olin, CEO of Printcafe and Oliver Pflug of printChannel

On Friday,

Monday, October 28, 2002

On Friday, Printcafe Software announced plans to acquire the assets and intellectual property of printChannel. Creo will assume ownership and development responsibilities for the portion of the printChannel e-commerce technology related to content management and workflow. In the announcement, Marc Olin, CEO of Printcafe said Creo would optimize the variable print, soft proofing, imposition and PDF creation functionality within the printChannel Classic and print I/O products.

Printcafe will not assume any printChannel obligations or liabilities other than in connection with certain customer contracts. The price paid for the assets was not revealed, but Printcafe does not anticipate that the transaction will have a material impact on its pro forma Q4 financial results.

Industry watchers have long suspected that Printcafe was the company that would acquire printChannel. Many, even Oliver Pflug, CEO of printChannel.com and Printcafe executives expected the deal to be finalized during GraphExpo in early October.

What attracted Printcafe to printChannel and what does this mean for the industry? We spoke with Marc Olin on Friday and found Oliver Pflug in New Zealand on Saturday. (Actually, it was Sunday, New Zealand time.)

Thank you Marc and Oliver.
