Hunkeler Innovationdays evolved from an open house for web finishing into the most important event for high volume digital printing, showing complete production lines with printers and finishing devices inline or nearline. While the latest presses exhibited by the invited printer vendors garner a lot of interest nowadays, the finishing solutions launched remain at the core of the event.

Originally scheduled as a biannual event, the 2021 and (rescheduled) 2022 events had to be cancelled due to the pandemic. Finally the Hunkeler innovationdays returned in February 2023 after a four year break. This gave Hunkeler some time to develop new technologies and hone on existing or recently launched devices.

Traditionally a supplier of web finishing solutions, Hunkeler introduced a cut-sheet finishing solution at the 2019 innovationdays already. The DocuTrim was previewed as an inline solution behind a Canon VarioPrint i300 B3 cut-sheet printer. After the show it went pretty quiet on the device and only in 2022 a first beta site in Switzerland started to use a Docutrim as near-line finisher
