Xeikon Extending Its Label Line-Up

Digital label printing has been a growth market for many years, served by a large number of printer suppliers. Xeikon, offering both electrophotographic and inkjet label presses, expands both product lines. European section editor Ralf Schlözer looks at the new units.

Digital label printing has been a growth market for many years, served by a large number of printer suppliers. Among them, Xeikon is a remarkable case as the company has two feet firmly in the different technology camps: electrophotography and inkjet.

In dry toner electrophotography, Xeikon has been serving the market for about 30 years. Label presses have been added early on and refined over the years. The latest iterations are the Cheetah presses in widths up to 508mm and up to 30 m/min. web speed.

In 2017, Xeikon entered the inkjet market with a splash by taking over the Jetrion label printer business from EFI, at that time the vendor with the largest installed base in inkjet label presses. Xeikon took over supplying ink and servicing the machines without being able to sell new machines, as EFI retained the intellectual property. This gap was resolved by the Panther series of UV inkjet printers that were introduced around the same time. Still, some Jetrion printers are in use today, but the numbers have dwindled.
