Heidelberg CX 104 Aiming for Outstanding Price/Performance Ratio

It’s not a new top-of-the-line model, but the Heidelberg CX 104—launched last week at China Print— is a well-rounded, multi-purpose press with a good price/performance ratio. European section editor Ralf Schlözer identifies what sets the new B2 press apart from the other presses.

To coincide with the 2021 China Print show in Peking, Heidelberger Druckmaschinen launched their latest B2 size (700 x 100) model, the Speedmaster CX 104. It’s refreshing to see that a device is not being billed as the latest game changer, but rather as delivering an outstanding price/performance ratio—something many print service providers should have a great interest in. In short, the CX 104 offers many features and options which were available on the top-of-the-line XL model so far at a price point that is about 15% lower than a similar configuration for the XL.

The Speedmaster CX 104 is billed as an all-around model, with commercial and packaging configurations available. There are optional card and thin substrate packages as well, allowing the press to run substrates from 0.03 mm to 1 mm. The added advantage of the combined approach is that commercial printers eyeing packaging can get a toehold in that market, a strategy seen lately with several digital press launches as well.
