A Dynamic Print Business

The printing industry is becoming more dynamic—not just as it relates to COVID-19 but in general. Everything is moving and increasing in velocity. Our ability to thrive in this environment requires a dynamic business approach, one that is characterized by constant change. A business must adjust according to its current conditions. This is a path to systemizing a dynamic business, one that is characterized by constant change—but a constant change that doesn’t leave your people behind.

Dynamic: (of a process or system) characterized by constant change, activity, or progress.

In 2020, I wrote a lot about how the global pandemic impacted the print industry, and the word “dynamic” keeps surfacing not just as it relates to COVID-19 but to the industry in general. Everything is moving. That movement is increasing in velocity. Our ability to thrive in this environment requires a dynamic business approach, one that is characterized by constant change.

A print owner said this over the phone the other day: “Businesses don’t die from lack of revenues. They die from lack of cash.” He was explaining how he made aggressive changes in March 2020 to adjust for the reality that COVID-19 was impacting on his business. I spoke with him again in December 2020 and he said year-over-year profits were the same with 35% less revenues! Dynamic. A business must adjust according to its current conditions.
