Francis McMahon at Océ: The Details

At the end of March, Francis McMahon, director of marketing for HP's US Graphic Arts Business, Imaging and Printing Group, departed HP after being there for eight years. Effective April 12th, he joined Océ North America as the Vice President of Marketing reporting to Mal Baboyian, President of Océ Production Printing Systems Division based in Boca Raton, Florida. Here is what McMahon has to say about his new company and the Canon acquisition.

Giving Francis McMahon a couple weeks to adjust to his new surroundings, WhatTheyThink spoke with him, and with Sheryl Pattek, Vice President of Marketing Services, on a wide range of interesting topics.

WTT: Francis, I know many people were surprised when you left the exciting position you had at HP. Can you share the backstory with us?

FM: I did have an exciting position with HP, and I didn't really anticipate making a move. But once I started talking to Océ, I was more intrigued with each new conversation. It is a very customer-centric and people-focused organization. Hats off to Mal Baboyian and Joe Skrzypczak. They have built a culture that is all about the employees and the way employees come together for the benefit of their customers. It seemed like a place where I could fit very well. During the decision process, I met a lot of shared customers between HP and Océ and asked questions. They told me that without a doubt, the service and support organization was the best they had experienced. They all knew Joe or Mal by name because both of them are very engaged with Océ customers in all three divisions of Océ North America. So with every new conversation, it just became more intriguing. Of course, the Boca/Boise thing weighed into it as well. I was just back in Boise briefly and it was 28 degrees!
