As we get closer to drupa 2020, the announcements of new products and solutions are starting to ramp up. Today, HP PageWide Industrial introduced their latest product innovation initially seen at a customer event in San Diego last week. As we have seen in the past with HDNA, HP likes to combine technology innovation with the release of a new press. In this case the new innovation is HP Brilliant InkTMand the press is the new HP PageWide Web Press T250 HD.

Targeted at commercial and publishing markets, initially Brilliant Ink brings the HP PageWide T250 HD press compatibility with offset coated and uncoated media through the selective use of a new HP Optimizer. If you recall, previously the use of standard offset media required a bonding agent for uncoated media and a different priming agent for coated media. With Brilliant Ink, the same “new” bonding agent can be applied to selective areas of both coated and uncoated offset media. By applying it selectively with printheads, it minimizes the amount of optimizer you need, but still get the improved print quality and compensation for coated mill batch variation. The use of ColorPRO certified inkjet media doesn’t require any primer or bonding agent with Brilliant Ink. This brings PageWide presses to the level of media handling capabilities to that of the competing Canon ProStream and Ricoh VC70000.

Labels and the Connected Supply Chain

Labels and the Connected Supply Chain

You can think of this very competitive connected supply chain landscape in four layers: material suppliers, label converters/printers, hardware OEMs, and software/platform players. The good news is that, as a converter, after you decide where you would like to start, there are so many options for you to select from. Read More

Direct-to-Object: Challenging Labels and Tags or Offering New Opportunities?

Print is a very adaptive technology and direct-to-object (DTO) is another area where it can offer new opportunities for PSPs and product manufacturers. Today, most of the product and packaging decoration (i.e., labels and tags) that exists is handled by a label converter. It is a well-established process that probably won’t disappear. However, it can and will be challenged by inline DTO printing solutions, offering new opportunities. Read More
