Trish Witkowski: How did you get into the print production/print finishing software business?

Julie Watson: I’m the second-generation leadership at Ultimate TechnoGraphics and I have been involved with the company since I was 5 years old—in my earliest days, I helped with applying stamps to envelopes! Throughout my career, I have acquired a unique skill set that is a cross between print software development and print communications.

Ultimate has been an imposition company since 1989, and in reality, imposition is about finishing. We could see a gap in the workflow and a bottleneck growing in finishing for digital workflows and online ordering environment where runs were getting shorter and the turnaround time was much faster. This is where our finishing automation quest started—at Drupa 2008, we debuted the first version of Ultimate Bindery®. Today, this highly advanced system drives over 34 different finishing devices and can dynamically manage a job workflow from imposition to finishing to save time and increase throughput.
