Making Ideas Happen… It’s About Community!

In 2010, Scott Belsky published a book entitled Making Ideas Happen. The premise for this book is that anyone can develop the capacity to make ideas happen. Although many of us believe that great ideas inevitably lead to success, nothing could be further from the truth. Whether it is the perfect solution for an everyday problem or a bold new concept for a creative masterpiece, you must transform your vision into reality for an idea to have value. I just finished reading a Wall Street Journal bestseller by Scott Belsky entitled Making Ideas Happen. The premise for Belsky’s book is that far from being some stroke of creative genius, anyone can develop the capacity to make ideas happen. Belsky believes that Thomas Edison had it right when he stated, “Genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration.”

The fundamentals that Belsky highlights deal with modifying your organizational habits, engaging a broader community, and developing your leadership capability. His equation for success is as follows:

Making Ideas Happen = Ideas + Organization + Communal Forces + Leadership Capability
