While I don't spend a lot of time focusing on the magazine and catalog printing industry, I am very interested in the whole area of Web-to-print and innovative ways printers are using the Web to benefit their customers and grow their own businesses. That's why a magazine and catalog news item caught my interest last month. PelicanMagazinePrinting.com was launched last month by a company that has been in the printing business for over 25 years. The site is functional and well thought out, using a simple wizard approach to laying out and ordering your custom magazine or catalog. It even includes an instant calculator that will let customers see what a magazine or catalog will cost based on specific characteristics and quantities. Standard 5 1/ 2" x 8 1/ 2" and 8 1/ 2" x 11" sizes, as well as custom sizes, are available. Are the prices competitive? We were finding an increased demand for magazines in custom market niches in small runs, and believed there was a tremendous amount of work out there in that arena.
