Behind the Scenes of the Enovation & Xerox Deal, Discussion With Vice-Chairman Jim Mullan

WhatTheyThink last spoke with Jim Mullan, Enovation's Vice-Chairman, shortly after Enovation was formed. Since that time, Enovation has acquired a number of companies, including Taylor Impression, Inc. (May 2002), Image Control Systems (July 2002), Arkin Graphics, Inc. (October 2002), Nelson-Keystone (January 2003) and the Enfield, Conn. business (formerly Blooms) of Northeastern Graphic Supply. Enovation also recently announced the integration of Fuji Photo Film U.S.A., Inc.'s Graphic Systems Division (Hanover Park, Illinois) into Enovation's current organization. Enovation has also been busy on the alliance front, strengthening its product portfolio through strategic partnership alliances with MacDermid, Flint Ink, Luscher, and Xerox.

The recent announcement that Enovation has signed a reseller agreement with Xerox to sell Xerox's DocuColor 12, 2045, 2060, 3535 and 6060 digital color presses to commercial printers and prepress companies, prompted WhatTheyThink to speak with Mullan to get a behind-the-scenes look at the deal and its implications for the industry.

WTT: Jim, thanks for taking the time to speak with us today about the Xerox reseller agreement. As I am sure most of our readers will remember, PrimeSource, prior to Fujifilm's acquisition of the company, signed on a number of years ago as the U.S. distributor for Xeikon digital presses, with limited success. Why do the parties to this agreement believe this initiative will deliver better results?
