Pitney Bowes Offers New Secure Mail Services

Press release from the issuing company

New Solution Suite Tailored to Meet Different Levels of Security Requirements STAMFORD, Conn., March 29, 2001- Pitney Bowes today offers a new service that combines leading-edge technology with industry expertise to create a secure mail handling process. Offered through Pitney Bowes Management Services (PBMS), the new Secure Mail offering, available in three tiers including Secure, Advanced, and Premium, has already been implemented in companies including United Illuminating, GE Capital, Kraft Foods, Merrill Lynch, and IBM. "Recent events and anthrax scares have forced senior-level business executives to examine and re-evaluate their mail handling procedures. For many of them, it is not just about protecting and insuring the safety of their employees, but also about insuring their business processes against false alarms and protecting their mission critical business communications," stated Judy Eckert, director, Mail Solutions, Pitney Bowes Management Services. "This new service makes it easier for customers to choose the level of security that is appropriate for their business, and offers new options, such as off-site mail opening and electronic imaging and delivery." For customers who decide that the Secure (standard) level of service best meets their needs, PBMS integrates all delivery functions, such as messenger, carrier and even taxi delivery service through a centralized screening process. Security benefits for the customer includes the elimination of unauthorized individuals making deliveries in work areas, identification of packages approved and released for delivery with a special "inspected" stamp, and utilization of PBMS Arrival to digitally capture signatures and provide precise record of activity. In all levels of secured mail services, PBMS provides only skilled workers who have passed four levels of security clearance before hiring. These features are also included in the Advanced Secure Mail offering. In addition, with the Advanced offering, companies receive on-site X-ray technology to scan all carrier, courier, USPS mail and parcels on-site. This technology is enhanced through best practices, which assures that dual-control procedures are observed, adding additional risk reductions For customers who need the highest level of secure mail solutions, such as those in government, military, utilities, broadcasting, petro-chemical or financial industries, PBMS' Premium security package offers the option of having mail and packages opened and inspected on the premises or at an off-site facility. With this level of service, the mail can be physically delivered or imaged and then distributed electronically through email or web posting. Additional options include cleansing the mail using a steam autoclave. PBMS customers who select this level of care also receive special assistance reducing the amount of paper communications that move through the organization, and strategies to isolate and pre-approved all vendor and third party deliveries. "The value delivered to our customers through our Secure Mail offering does not exist in one product or one 'box'," says Eckert. "Rather, our knowledge of the mail and document management process in its entirety allows us to deliver the most cost effective and robust, long-term solution."
