Paul Johnson of Clemson University Wins TAGA Student Design Challenge

Press release from the issuing company

Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Technical Association of the Graphic Arts (TAGA) is pleased to announce the results of the TAGA Student Design Challenge. The winning design was submitted by Clemson University senior Paul Johnson of Anderson, South Carolina. Paul described his design as one that “…symbolizes the use of subtractive color in print, additive color on digital devices, and where these technologies converge. The modern design and appearance promote TAGA’s dedication to innovation and progress.”

The judges’ comments included, “Innovative design, very different from the past and great use of color; gets TAGA away from CMYK, associated with litho, and moves us into the modern era. This is by far my most popular of the designs,” and “Represents marriage of technical + graphics + art. Best concept and, frankly, only one that encompasses all aspects of a logo design.”

Paul received a $500 award along with a complimentary registration and travel stipend to attend the 2019 TAGA Annual Technical Conference in Minneapolis, MN (pictured).

The TAGA Student Design Challenge charged university and technical school students with the task of designing a new logo for the organization. They were asked that the design reflect the organization’s purpose as an international association of academic and industry professionals dedicated to scientific research and technological innovation in all aspects of the diverse field of graphic communications.

Additionally, second ($250) and third place ($100) awards went to Appalachian State University senior Laura McGinn of Boone, North Carolina and Western Michigan University junior Morgan Haskins of Brighton, Michigan, respectively.
