BillerudKorsnäs Scored A for Protecting Forests

Press release from the issuing company

BillerudKorsnäs has been highlighted as a global leader in tackling deforestation by environmental impact non-profit CDP, achieving a place on the CDP Forests A List.

Every year thousands of companies disclose data about their environmental impacts, risks and opportunities to CDP for independent assessment against its scoring methodology. In 2018, companies were requested to do so by over 650 investors. Companies receive scores of A to D- for how effectively they are tackling climate change, deforestation and water security, while those that don’t disclose or provide insufficient information are marked with an F.

BillerudKorsnäs has been recognized for its actions in the last reporting year to tackle deforestation in its supply chain with sustainable sourcing of key commodities linked to deforestation globally, based on their 2018 disclosure to CDP.

CDP’s scoring for forests is done through the lens of the four commodities that cause most deforestation: timber, cattle, soy and palm oil. Companies need to score an A on at least one of these forest-risk commodities to get onto the Forests A List.

- This ranking is an acknowledgment that BillerudKorsnäs works in a long-term sustainable way with our forests as a raw material. This work has to be seen in a larger perspective which is not just about the forest but about all the work needed to protect our climate, ”says Malin Ljung Eiborn, Head of Sustainability at BillerudKorsnäs.
