Kentucky Humanities welcomes more than 180 authors to the Kentucky Horse Park for iconic event

Lexington, Ky. – Kentucky Humanities will present the 37th Annual Kentucky Book Fair on Saturday, November 17, 2018, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Alltech Arena at the Kentucky Horse Park. Once held as a two-day event in Frankfort KY, the Kentucky Book Fair has found a new home in Lexington and expanded to a week-long festival (November 12-17) with literary events for readers of all ages. The Kentucky Book Festival gives readers more opportunities to engage with local and national authors alike.

“Our expanded Kentucky Book Festival is a remarkable week for book lovers,” says Bill Goodman, Kentucky Humanities executive director. “However, the heart and soul of the festival is and will always be the Kentucky Book Fair. For 37 years this event has been a rare and wonderful opportunity for readers to engage with authors and to discover new writers and books that you’ll want in your personal library for years to come.”

The 2018 Kentucky Book Fair features bestselling and award-winning authors, including Wendell Berry, H.W. Brands, Rita Mae Brown, Artis Gilmore, Silas House, Bobbie Ann Mason, Kristina McMorris, Billy Reed, Robert Sabuda, Sarah Smarsh, Michael Sokolove, Richard Taylor, Mary Ann Taylor-Hall, Cal Turner, Jr., Crystal Wilkinson, and Virginia Willis. “Lexington has a rich literary heritage, and it’s rightly known as the Literary Capital of Mid-America,” said Mayor Jim Gray. “That’s why we said last year that having the Kentucky Book Fair here was a perfect fit for our city.”

In addition to meeting patrons and signing books, author presentations and panel discussions will take place on three different stages throughout the day. Topics include recollections from members of the UK 1978 Men’s Basketball Championship Team, diversity in Southern Cuisine, depictions of rural Americans in literature, the Louisville basketball scandal, epic political rivalries of the past, and more.
