GPO Names Chief Information Officer

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Government Publishing Office (GPO) Acting Deputy Director Herbert H. Jackson, Jr. selects Sam Musa as the Chief Information Officer for GPO. Musa will be responsible for managing IT policies and standards relating to the acquisition, implementation, and operation of telecommunications and IT systems throughout the agency. He is also responsible for developing and maintaining operating budgets for network IT systems consistent with program plans and established financial guidelines, and for monitoring activities and costs related to the overall utilization of information resources required to meet program operations requirements.

“Sam brings a wealth of experience working in Federal Government IT and cybersecurity to GPO,” said Acting GPO Deputy Director Herbert H. Jackson, Jr. “I look forward to his ideas of strengthening the agency’s IT operations, which will enhance our service to Congress, Federal agencies and the public.”

Musa brings two decades of Federal Government IT and cybersecurity experience to GPO. Prior to coming to GPO, Musa served as Chief of IT Services for the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), where he oversaw the help desk, desktop security, training, audio visual/video teleconferencing services, mobile devices, and security audits. During his ten-year tenure at EEOC, he managed security operations and built a cybersecurity program that reduced viruses and ransomware attacks. He also designed, disseminated and tracked annual cybersecurity awareness training for the agency. Prior to EEOC, he was Information Systems Security Manager at the National Weather Service (NWS) where he led risks assessment and management, audit, governance, disaster recovery and policy agency-wide. He also served as Information Systems Program Manager at the FBI and Program Manager/Network Operation Center Manager at the National Guard Bureau (Pentagon) where he began his IT career as a Helpdesk Manager.

Musa currently teaches network/cybersecurity courses the University of Maryland University College. He is a Certified Public Manager (CPM) and Certified Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) and holds 15 certifications total. Musa received a Doctorate Degree in Business Administration from The National Graduate School. He also holds a Master’s Degree in Public Service from Fort Hays State University and a Master’s Degree in Telecommunications from George Mason University.
