Report Predicts Shift in Printing with Tough Challenges for Commercial Printers

Press release from the issuing company

HARRISVILLE, RI -- The second annual TrendWatch Forecast 2001 report was released today. In this special report, TrendWatch presents its perspective of how the nature of print is changing and restructuring the nearly $70 billion U.S. printing industry. This year's report highlights were presented, at a recent executive briefing event at GraphExpo 2000 in Chicago (September 26th). For the fifth year, industry top decision makers were on hand to hear the TrendWatch Partners, Dr. Joseph Webb and Jim Whittington talk about the future of print. The Forecast 2001 report contains more than 100 pages of detailed industry trend and demographic information with expert analysis by the TrendWatch Partners and Editors. "Last year we noted a shift in demand for print as business-to-business communication budgets were diverted to Internet initiatives." said Dr. Joe Webb, TrendWatch Partner. "The changes are still being felt in 2000 and will continue in 2001, and they're hitting different segments and sizes of print businesses differently." According to TrendWatch Forecast 2001, the following themes will become evident in the next 12 months: -- The demand for print is still changing -- the Internet is not stealing ad dollars. It's stealing product information, support, and transaction dollars from print; -- The increasing global demand for U.S. dollars is affecting other currencies causing vendors to be cautious, which may mean that printing businesses may find more opportunities for deal-making on new equipment as vendors' businesses slow; -- Rising paper and energy costs hit when new media costs pressure reductions in printing prices; -- The effect of the Internet on the printing industry is revolutionary, irrespective of dot-com stock prices -- a new infrastructure is being created.
