Printers' Worries Over Paper Prices which Continue to Rise

Press release from the issuing company

From TrendWatch: For all the worries about keeping up with technology, it's still the little things that'll get you: 18% of printers found increasing paper prices as their biggest business challenge in our Spring 2000 survey, compared with only 10% back in Fall 98. In a seemingly unrelated story, 7% of printers are worried about competition from the Internet, as compared to a scant 3% in Fall 1998. Why should you care?...Before you blow off these facts as being unimportant to you, consider this: With all the reasons there are for "print buyers" to increasingly become "Web buyers," the last thing printers need is for them to have another one. Rising paper prices couldn't happen at a worse time with new media pressuring print to lower pricing levels making print even more of a commodity. Client budgets are already shifting away from print and yet, if printers don't raise the cost of print accordingly, there goes profitability. Oh yeah, our talks with printers say that jobs that were on press just six months ago now get printed on the desktop from PDF files. More on this one later!
