iSecuritas and Mail Boxes Etc. to Develop Digital Notary

Press release from the issuing company

Dallas, TX - iSecuritas, Inc. (iSI), a leading Internet security company, and Mail Boxes Etc. (MBE), the world’s largest retail business, communications and postal service franchisor, have joined forces to develop a digital notary which will help combat identity theft.  The identity of people conducting electronic and traditional commerce will be confirmed by having those individuals appear in the physical presence of official notaries public at MBE locations. According to Industry Standard magazine, identity theft is the fastest growing financial crime as criminals profit by simply stealing names, social security numbers and credit card data.  Aiming to bring a new level of trust to Internet banking and business transactions, iSI and MBE have developed a revolutionary strategy.  The official notaries public already stationed throughout MBE’s system will verify the identities and notarize the electronic signatures of people who step briefly into any of MBE’s more than 3,400 U.S. brick-and-mortar locations. "Our commitment to making the Internet a secure place in which to conduct business will be furthered by MBE’s excellent customer service record," said iSI President and CEO J. Mark Lambright.  "MBE’s national presence will provide our customers the ease of access they need to conduct transactions over the web in a secure manner." "The conundrum of Internet trade is how to know with whom you are dealing," observed Benjamin Wright, attorney and author of the book, The Law of Electronic Commerce.  "Previous solutions have failed because they hinged on secret codes, passwords and mothers’ maiden names, which could be lost, stolen or guessed.  The iSecuritas/MBE program to confirm the identity of Internet folks with in-the-flesh notaries is dynamite."
