TrendWatch Study Indicates Stronger Printer Acceptance/Adoption of PDF
Press release from the issuing company
NEW YORK, NY -- April 25, 2002 -- TrendWatch Graphic Arts today released its latest special report entitled, "PDF: The Thing With Two Heads." TrendWatch Graphic Arts (TWGA), known for its analysis of the graphic communications industry, reports that printers do not view PDF as a threat to their businesses, as once was perceived. TWGA data indicates that 27% of commercial printers see "PDF workflow" as having a positive effect on their businesses -- only 4% see "PDF workflow" as having a negative effect. The report was made available today for downloading in PDF format. For more information, please visit the TWGA website http://www.trendwatchgraphicarts.com/pdfspecial.html
"We refer to PDF as 'the thing with two heads.' One head wants to streamline the prepress and print production processes. The other wants to steal work from the printers' shops, as PDF is increasingly becoming the primary form of document distribution. Which head will ultimately win? Or will both heads learn to live with each other? Those are the issues we explored in this Special Report," stated Vince Naselli, Director, TrendWatch Graphic Arts.
According to the report:
-- "Making PDF work in our shop" is decreasing as a business challenge, except among quick printers, who are seeing increasingly more PDF files;
-- Only 4% of commercial printers view "competition from Internet information products" (i.e., non-print) as a business challenge;
-- 82% of creative professionals own Acrobat, 28% stating it's the most used software tool in their shops;
-- 78% of publishers own Acrobat, reporting 16% use it most often;
-- Between Spring 2000 and Spring 2002, investment in PDF workflow capabilities among printers has declined from 20% to 8%. NOTE: Acrobat has proliferated very quickly, and except for acquiring a periodic update, most reported having at least some incarnation of Acrobat already.
"PDF: The Thing With Two Heads" is available for purchase by visiting the secure TrendWatch Graphic Arts eStore online at http://www.trendwatchgraphicarts.com/estore or by phone at (866) 873-6310. The price for the report is $1295. TrendWatch Graphic Arts eStore customers can download this report in PDF Acrobat format immediately after purchase.
