CDP raises £1,400 to help ‘Share Your Lunch’ campaign end food poverty in the Liverpool region

Press release from the issuing company

Liverpool-based CDP Print Management has announced that it has raised £1,400 for the local food poverty charity, Can Cook, who are behind the Liverpool region’s ‘Share Your Lunch’ campaign. The print management services provider has also selected Can Cook to be its chosen charity of the year.

The funds were raised following a sporting evening organised by CDP, which involved two of Liverpool football club’s former European Cup winning legends, Welsh international Joey Jones and England international Phil Neal. The evening was staged at Liverpool venue, The Connie Club on the 25th November, and the event was compered by the Liverpool Echo’s James Pearce.

The sporting evening was well attended and supported by CDP staff, family and friends, along with CDP customers and suppliers. All monies raised on the night will now go towards providing families with a hot meal on Christmas Day, as part of the ‘Can Cook’ – Share Your Lunch campaign.

The evening was the first in a series of fundraising events which are being planned by CDP, as part of its activities towards assisting Can Cook with its Share Your Lunch efforts.

Can Cook is the latest selected charity by CDP, and forms part of the Joe Scanlon Memorial Fund, (CDP’s founder), which each year since 2001 has selected various charitable causes to be its nominated choice of donations. The Fund has so far raised in excess of £70,000 since its inception, each year surpassing its target figures.

CDP will also utilise the Can Cook logo and relevant information on its yearly wall planners and calendars as part of its fundraising activities throughout the year.

Commenting on the success of the sporting evening and the selection of the Can Cook charity, and Share Your Lunch campaign, CDP Chairman Paul Scanlon, stated, “The staff chose Can Cook following a presentation from Laura McCumiskey, Development Manager at Can Cook, our Charity Committee headed by Graham Duncan, Stock Products Manager, assisted by Carolyn Brown & Neil Jones attended & organised the event. We had 34 Denmark supporters from the official LFC supporter’s branch alongside 12 USA supporters from the Baltimore LFC chapter, it was a great night, and over 140 families will have a slightly easier Christmas because of our efforts.”

The Can Cook campaign was established as it is estimated that 60,000 people in Liverpool have accessed a food bank in the last 12 months. This includes low-paid workers, unemployed, the disabled and those who are sick. According to Can Cook, approximately 25% of food bank users were elderly people and a further 25% were children. This figure doesn’t take account of the thousands of people who didn’t access food banks and borrowed money to feed themselves, or those who went silently hungry until they could next afford food. Additionally, there are thousands of families in the Liverpool City Region living on the verge of food crisis, whose income doesn’t allow for fresh food in their diets.

The Can Cook charity believes that good food is a human right and that everybody should have access to fresh food by choice, regardless of their circumstances. As part of its campaign it has teamed up with celebrity chef, and C4 Sunday Brunch co-presenter, Simon Rimmer, together with The Liverpool Echo to launch the Share Your Lunch campaign, which is looking to generate up to 50,000 free, fresh meals for hungry people in Merseyside.  By working alongside corporate partners and sponsors and the people of Merseyside it is aiming to raise funds to provide everybody in food poverty in Liverpool with nutritious, fresh food and ending food poverty in the region.
