Rorke Data to Supply DVD-RAM Libraries for Witt

Press release from the issuing company

GOLDEN, Colo.--ASACA Corporation announced today that Witt Biomedical Corporation, the industry leader in cardiology network systems, has selected Rorke Data to supply ASACA TeraCart® DVD-RAM libraries. With the DVD-RAM systems, Witt introduces multiple archival technology to its line of IMAGE IV(TM) Digital Image Archival Systems. Known for providing comprehensive solutions, innovative technology, and support, Witt Biomedical has begun integrating the ASACA Digital Virtual Libraries (DVLs), into its entire line of Image IV archival systems for installation in medical environments worldwide. The ASACA libraries will be purchased through Rorke Data, a subsidiary of San Jose-based Bell Microproducts (Nasdaq:BELM - news). Well known for its expertise in medical imaging, Rorke also incorporates the libraries into custom-designed, fibre-channel storage systems and complete SAN (storage area network) solutions for digital audio/video, publishing, and IT markets. ASACA's TeraCart libraries are the world's highest-density, random-access storage solutions providing data transfer rates exceeding 2.8 MB/s. Each library can be configured with 1 to 24 DVD-RAM drives and as many as 1,450 double-sided 9.4GB rewritable DVD discs for capacities ranging from 2.3TB to more than 13TB. For higher storage capacity requirements, up to eight libraries can be connected together as a single system using pass-through and infrared communications for a total capacity of 109TB attached to a single host. In addition to being able to read from and write to DVD-RAM media, the libraries can read DVD-RAM, DVD-ROM, CD-R, CD-RW, CD-ROM, and CD audio media. While other DVD storage libraries provide broad media interchangeability, only the ASACA product is capable of acting as four separate libraries within a single cabinet -- each with a different media technology. Also unique to ASACA DVLs is the innovative robotics head that flips for fast access to both sides of a double-sided piece of DVD-RAM media. This feature will enable Witt and their customers to immediately take advantage of new 9.4GB media, effectively doubling their current single-sided media capacity without making costly hardware or software upgrades. "Witt Biomedical Corporation is known worldwide for taking an aggressive leadership approach in designing high-quality, fault-tolerant digital image archival systems,'' said Chris Stone, ASACA's director of marketing. "This partnering will maximize the performance of the ASACA DVLs and open doors to a host of new medical imaging, storage and retrieval applications for both companies.'' "Previously, our Image IV archival solutions relied on Magneto-Optical (MO) technology,'' said Michael Wolfe, President of Witt Biomedical. By integrating ASACA's DVD libraries into our IMAGE IV Digital Image Archival Systems, we're able to provide our customers with more choices, greater flexibility, a lower cost per Megabyte, and higher capacity without having to rewrite our entire archival software. Clients can configure multiple virtual libraries within a single cabinet," Wolfe continued, "while taking advantage of a broad range of media formats."
