Global Graphics Licences RIP And PDF Technology To Polkadots
Press release from the issuing company
Cambridge UK and Montreal, Canada– June 2004 – Polkadots Software Inc., a leading prepress workflow developer that specializes in database driven workflow automation for Harlequin RIP technology has licensed the Harlequin RIP and Jaws PDF Library from Global Graphics Software for its market leading PrePage-It workflow solution. Global Graphics Software is a subsidiary of Global Graphics SA (Euronext: GLOG) and a leading worldwide developer of software components for printing, publishing and document management.
PrePage-It is a secure PDF (Portable Document Format) and ROOM (RIP Once Output Many) solution targeted at printers and publishers running one or more versions of the Harlequin RIP and who wish to integrate and automate their processes into a cohesive workflow solution. Having supplied technology to integrate with the Harlequin RIP for many years Polkadots wished to establish a direct OEM relationship with Global Graphics to be able to supply the Harlequin RIP as part of their workflow package and to optimize PrePage-It to take advantage of new features in the RIP as and when they are introduced.
Robert Dumas, Polkadots Software, comments, “Polkadots has been working with Harlequin technology for a long time before taking this decision to become an OEM. The Harlequin RIP’s plug-in architecture facilitates the integration of our workflow systems and its stability and superior performance make it the ideal RIP solution to build a workflow around.”
Ralph Lloyd, Global Graphics VP of product marketing said, “One of the unique qualities of PrePage-it is that it can upgrade any Windows-based Harlequin RIP to a full workflow server, increasing functionality and operator performance, at an unbeatable cost.”
PrePage-It creates secure, production ready files, thanks to the efficiency of its RIP Once Output Many (ROOM) architecture which saves processing time, increases productivity and decreases the risk of errors in the design, prepress and production workflow. It is completely scaleable and modular allowing it to be configured to work in a variety of printing and publishing environments. It accepts all the popular production file formats including PDF, PostScript , PDF/X-1A, PDF/X-3, EPS and TIFF and is compatible with all Computer-to-Plate and Computer-to-Film devices and PostScript printers.
Polkadots has licensed Jaws PDF Library to accelerate their development time for enhanced PDF features in PrePage-It, including those for Version 5 of the product, scheduled for release this autumn. A software development kit (SDK), Jaws PDF Library contains a powerful set of functions that enables Postscript Language to PDF and PDF to PostScript Language translation functionality to be embedded into third-party solutions and workflows.
