Tecco Announces New EFI Proofing Substrates

Press release from the issuing company

New Proofing substrates and Fiery XF support new Fogra Standards 51/52

Bergisch Gladbach - Tecco, innovation leader and trend setter in the market for photo, fine art, proofing and lfp media, presents EFI Proofpaper 8245 OBA and EFI Proofpaper 8175 OBA, their first proof substrates that comply with the new FOGRA51/52 standards. Similiar to their very popular EFI 4245 in combination with FOGRA39 the paper white point of the new EFI Proofpaper 8245 OBA is chosen according to FOGRA51. It enables proofing without paper white simulation. This is one of the most important criteria for choosing a proof paper.

EFI Proof Paper 8245OBA Semi Matt

EFI Proof Paper 8245OBA semi matt is a special development for proofing brightened and coated edition paper. Just like the EFI 4245 it has a grammage of 245 g/m.  The white point of this semi matt paper is very close to the data of the future FOGRA51 profile and thereby enables proofing according to FOGRA51 without paper white simulation. It is substrate certified according to ISO 12647-7. Users who want to use the old standard for proofing, e.g. according to FOGRA39 without changing paper can use the new EFI 8245.

EFI Proof Paper 8175OBA Matt

For proofing uncoated, brightened edition papers the EFI 8175OBA is offered next to the popular paper free of brighteners: EFI9120XF. Weighing 175 g/m this matt paper can be used for Fogra52.

Both papers are available, paper profiles can be loaded within the software from the EFI server and also from the web site free of charge. EFI expects the new Fogra standard to pass within the third quarter of the year.

Tecco offers all roll widths and as usual the standard sheet formats. All certifications like Fogra, PEFC respectively FSC mark the papers as back print.

Users who do not want to change their proofing environment can use the established proof papers e.g. EFI Proofpaper 4245 or EFI 9120XF.

Background Information/Market & Target Group Analysis

With the discharge of the light norm ISO 3664:2009 new lamps and illuminants are used in press room and in prepress which differ from the previous norm especially referring to the UV component. These new illuminants have a better defined but also a significantly higher UV component than the norm light of the previous generation. As a result of this situation optical brightened edition papers now appear significantly whiter viewed with the new lamps than formerly with the previous lights while not brightened proof papers now can appear more yellow than offset papers. Parallel to the change of the light norm ISO 13655 was enhanced with the measuring condition M1 which also contains a defined and higher UV component in the light source than in older measuring devices working according to M0 measurement (un-defined and normally lower UV component). Herewith a compliance between visual evaluation using new norm light and colorimetric measurement is achieved. To meet the future metrological requirements the market offers measuring devices like EFI ES2000 which can measure M1, M0 as for M2 (UV cut). New characterization data and appropriate color profiles (Fogra51 for coated papers and Fogra52 for uncoated papers) are in the beta evaluation period at Fogra. EFI´s semi matt coated proof paper 8245 OBA was developed specially for proofing FOGRA51 data. EFI´s matt coated Proofpaper 8175 OBA is ideal for proofing Fogra52 data.
