GBC Films Group at Drupa

Press release from the issuing company

Drupa 2004 – Düsseldorf (Germany), May 6th 2004 - GBC Films Group Europe and GBC Europe, will guide you through the world of print finishing during Drupa. With their extensive portfolio of complete thermal laminating solutions, GBC will demonstrate on stand D05 in hall 11 their equipment and consumables for all printing processes and applications. Furthermore experts will highlight the advantages of thermal lamination during a daily presentation in a theatre on the GBC stand at 11.30am and 2.30pm. High Speed Commercial Print Finishing This Voyager3 with stacker is a one-sided laminator, running 50 m/min and including an integrated feeder and separator. It is designed to process a variety of high-speed commercial thermal films and offers a capability of 76 cm x 102 cm. Voyager3 is the ideal solution for medium and high volumes of printed materials. The Delta laminating system with slitter will also be demonstrated during Drupa. The concept of the Delta is based on the ability to change stock, size and film quickly. This compact, fully integrated machine operates at a speed of 20 m/min and covers a maximum working width of 52 x 74 cm. The system is suitable for shorter runs and offers high quality performances. New high speed laminator The Centurion2, GBC’s high speed completely integrated laminating system with feeder, separator and stacker will not be demonstrated during Drupa. However, staff will be pleased to discuss the specifications and benefits of this machine, which can laminate up to 102 x 140 cm with a speed of 60 m/min. An optional closed circuit water-cooling system with chill roller assures the best output. The Centurion is designed to increase productivity without compromising on flexibility. With this extended range of commercial laminators, GBC can offer finishing solutions meeting the requirements of every professional printer and trade finisher. New hardcoat thermal laminate film GBC will launch at Drupa a unique scuff free film. This superior, polypropylene film for one-sided lamination resists scratches due to a hardcoat, matte surface. The Hardcoat Matt film is a unique combination of polypropylene film and abrasion-resistant coating which gives the printed material a striking appearance. Hardcoat film provides a scratch resistant, durable surface for protecting book covers, dust jackets, etc. The film won’t scuff in production, shipping or handling. Furthermore the coating dramatically reduces the amount of returns, resulting in improved margins for publishers. GBC will also present a completely new revolutionary Gloss and Matt OPP laminating film. This film with superior adhesion properties, flatness and winding quality is completely water resistant and can be used for all kind of outdoor applications. New finishes of pre-embossed thermal OPP film At Drupa, GBC will show different finishes of pre-embossed film. Besides the popular linen structure, GBC will introduce a number of new patterns. This pre-embossed film provides a unique textured finish that adds durability and protection to book covers. Cost savings are an additional benefit of this product. As the pattern is built into the film, no further investments in the technical environment are necessary. By adding these new finishes to the thermal range, GBC can offer a comparable range to manufacturers of wet laminating film. On-Demand finishing For the Print-On-Demand market GBC introduces the new Mercury. This low volume one-sided finishing solution is designed for copy shops and corporate in-house printing departments. The new tabletop laminating system with a semi-automatic feeder and automatic separator laminates at speeds up to 3 meters per minute and will finish sheets up to 52 cm wide. It is an excellent system for low to mid-volume finishing production. Together with the Hi-Tac Lay-Flat film, specially designed for the output of digital printers with heavy toner coverage, Mercury will dramatically improve the finished appearance of the printed output. In close collaboration with Xerox, GBC will launch StackPort, a brand new finishing workflow concept for on-demand print jobs allowing printing, laminating, punching and binding in one workflow. As well at the GBC stand as at the Xerox stand you can experience in-line and near-line connectivity solutions using the new StackPort technology, connecting the different print and finishing devices to increase efficiency in time and cost. StackPort is emerging as a new industry standard and will be featured on devices from Xerox, CP Bourg, Duplo and GBC. Wide-Format laminating solutions New wide-format machines include the Talon 64 thermal laminating machine for mid-range volume finishing and the Falcon 60+ designed to laminate, encapsulate or mount inkjet prints up to 1575 cm. This laminating machine has a dual finishing system and can run thermal and cold pressure-sensitive finishing jobs consecutively. The SignMaker is a multi-purpose laminator designed to efficiently run single-step solutions for rigid signs using AccuShield and SecurFilm. Used in combination, these products streamline production, saving time and money. New innovative Wide Format films SecurFilm is both an inkjet and protective all-in-one laminating film. SecurFilm eliminates at least one step in the production process, saving time and media costs. In two easy steps – print and mount – you can produce a professional high-quality, mounted graphic. AccuShield, introduced end of last year, is a new patented, liquid coating alternative with UV resistance, adhering to media without the need for trimming. GBC developed this solution for finishing the output of eco-solvent printers (up to 160 cm), where the volumes to laminate are too small to invest in a stand-alone liquid laminator. Advantages of thermal lamination: daily programme during Drupa As the advantages of thermal lamination become more widely known, commercial printers and trade finishers are receiving increasingly specific requests from customers to use thermal laminating film on their prints. GBC has a distinctive advantage over other suppliers in that it can offer a complete lamination solution in film and in equipment, offering the user the benefits of one-stop shopping and the best possible service and expertise on both film and machines. In a special theatre on their stand (Hall 11, Stand D05), GBC will present a daily programme highlighting the advantages of thermal lamination for finishing purposes for all sectors of the Printing Industry today. Presentations are taking place every day at 11.30am and 2.30pm in the GBC theatre. GBC’s punching solutions The only inline printer punch in the market today, the Fusion Punch II docks to high-speed Xerox Docutech Series printers -- combining printing and punching into one step. The revolutionary design reliably handles a variety of stocks and fully prepares each document for binding. Designed to meet the requirements of the digital print marketplace, GBC's Quantum P70iX is the industry’s first fully digital, high-speed production punch. With quick, intuitive set-up, the Quantum can punch up 60,000 sheets per hour. The GBC StreamPunch provides a flexible, fully integrated punching solution when combined with the power of the Ricoh Aficio 2090 & 2105 Digital Imaging Systems. The high-speed StreamPunch creates ready-to-bind documents at the touch of a button.
