DS Smith, a leading provider of corrugated packaging and displays, is expanding its digital printing capabilities to provide customers faster turnarounds and mass customization with the HP T400 Simplex Color Inkjet Web Press.

The HP T400 Simplex Color Inkjet Web Press represents a significant expansion of the company’s digital capabilities and was installed in DS Smith’s Belper, Derbyshire, UK site in March 2015. The press will enable DS Smith to produce high-quality corrugated boxes as well as cost-effective customized output with the potential for every printed piece to be  unique at speeds up to 600 feet per minute (183 meters per minute). With the ability to digitally preprint four process colors onto liners up to 42 inches (1.06 meters) wide prior to corrugating, the HP T400 Simplex Color Inkjet Web Press will also help DS Smith in its quest to provide customers faster turnarounds with greater production flexibility. DS Smith has been growing its digital packaging printing offering over time and previously invested in an HP Scitex 15000 Corrugated Press at its Norrköping location in 2014. Within six months, the Norrköping location’s digital production rose to 15 percent of its total output.

As DS Smith continues to deploy high-volume, digital print solutions, it will also be the world’s first user of HP’s upcoming wide-web digital preprint solution, the HP T1100 Simplex Color Inkjet Web Press, and will lead the industry with this game-changing technology.
