Xerox’s New Digital Alternatives Turns the Page On Paper; Redefines How Documents Are Used in the Enterprise

Press release from the issuing company

Company launches services to help reduce printing in the workplace

NORWALK, Conn. – The company that transformed the workplace by creating an easier way to duplicate information on paper continues to find ways to help business people print less. Xerox is delivering three new solutions to move enterprises closer to a more digital, paper-less work environment envisioned decades ago.

“Printing less isn’t just about using less paper – it’s about working smarter, improving productivity, connecting with clients faster and using data to bolster business,” said Mike Feldman, president, Large Enterprise Operations, Xerox.  “At first thought, we may be an unlikely source to say ‘print less’, but we bridge the digital and paper worlds to help enterprises better understand, protect and use information more intelligently.”

Paper and digital divide be gone

Xerox’s Digital Alternatives is a simple desktop and mobile assistant technology that automates paper-based workflows that exist within any large organization. With Xerox Digital Alternatives users can easily sign, annotate, share, save and read documents from one interface. There’s no need to print documents, convert files or toggle between different programs and digital versions; a time-saving and efficiency gain.

The secure, intuitive interface can be deployed across Microsoft Windows-based PCs and Apple iPad tablets. Since work is no longer a place, Xerox Digital Alternatives synchronizes documents automatically on most personal devices for use by mobile employees.

Real-time analytics of the document cycle also give enterprises insight on how to better manage their migration from paper-based working to digital.

Make it to go

Printed documents, such as marketing and sales materials, remain important, but a growing number of businesses want content delivered in electronic formats too. With Xerox ePublishing Services, clients can do both by using a common document processing workflow.

The service provides a digital file output suitable for smartphones, tablets, eReaders and computer displays. Documents can be published in PDF, or for more interactive engagements in HTML5 or ePublication formats with hyperlinks and rich media.

Built-in analytic tools measure and collect data, such as clicks and average-visit duration, providing valuable feedback in developing future content.

Being greener

To help enterprises reduce their carbon footprint and motivate employees to do their part, Xerox’s Research Centre Europe created Xerox Print Awareness Tool – a patented system that actively encourages workers to be more environmentally responsible.

Using gamification technology, employees can voluntarily track how their efforts support company-wide print reduction and print smarter goals. A desktop software widget monitors and analyzes print history and wasteful habits.

The tool provides real-time print metrics and tips on how to change behaviors.  Fun factors, including peer competition and incentives, can also be used to encourage participation.

Accelerating digitalization with new partnerships

Xerox has also formed two new strategic partnerships with Hyland and Datawatch to accelerate the migration of paper to digital for government, retail, healthcare, insurance and financial services industries.
