Burton & Mayer President Retires

Press release from the issuing company

Menomonee Falls, WI It was announced today that Timothy J. Burton will retire as president of Burton & Mayer, effective January, 2015.  He will, however, continue in his role as Chairman of the Board.

Burton started working at his family company right after college in 1970, first in sales and progressively into management positions.  He has been a partner in the firm since 1980, when he purchased his father’s share of the business.

During his tenure, the company has transformed from a small sheet-fed and letterpress printing operation to a full marketing solutions provider, including: design, direct-to-plate imaging, small and large format digital machines, marketing consulting, premiums, in addition to a full fleet of modern offset presses. Sales have grown from $2.5 million and 20 employees to $16.5 million and 88 employees. Burton & Mayer is one of the premier commercial printers in southeastern Wisconsin, ranking in the top 20 for many years.

In 1989, Burton and his company led the way in reducing air emissions through conversion to non-?alcohol fountain solutions, and won the WMC "Friend of the Environment" Award. The Forest Stewardship Council and Sustainable Forestry Initiative certifications validate Burton & Mayer's continuing commitment to support environmentally sound practices throughout its operation.

Burton has been a strong supporter of Printing Industries of America.  He served as Chairman of the Printing Industries of America Board of Directors in 2013, and continues serving on the PIA Executive team, Association Relations Committee, Investment Committee, and Finance Committee. He is currently a director and past Chairman of the Board for the former Printing Industries of Wisconsin—now Great Lakes Graphics Association.  “Mr. Burton was one of the finest Chairmen ever to serve PIA.  His visionary leadership helped the organization survive a difficult restructuring only to emerge as a stronger association.  Principled, committed and focused, he is universally respected within the industry,” noted Michael Makin, President and CEO of PIA.

“I will miss the day to day interaction with employees and customers,” said Burton, “but I know I’ll be leaving the Company in really good hands.”   Moving into the role of President will be Tim’s cousin and partner, James A. Burton.  And Tim’s daughter Jenny Burton-Ziemann will become a partner and Vice President, the fourth generation in a leadership role with Burton & Mayer.

Located in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, Burton & Mayer, Inc. is an established graphic communications company  featuring  the latest in digital technology,  wide format printing, a fleet of presses capable of printing  from  1  to  8  colors,  high  speed  finishing  equipment  and  on-?line  print-?on-?demand  and fulfillment  capabilities.    In  addition,  it has  expanded  its  marketing  and  creative  services  to  better serve clients, offering customers a unique blend of diversity, technical skills and competencies.
