Houston Chronicle to host the 36th Annual Goss Metro Users Group Conference

Press release from the issuing company

November 24th, 2003 – The Houston Chronicle has announced that it will be hosting the 36th Metro User’s Group Conference, to be held at the Hilton Americas-Houston from Saturday, February 28 through Wednesday, March 3, 2004. Following the unqualified success of last year’s Conference in New Orleans, the Goss Metro User’s Group urges members to register for the event as early as possible. With a program to include cost-saving and revenue enhancing ideas, Goss International technology updates, breakout sessions and a tour of the Houston Chronicle plant, as well as the annual Metro User’s Golf Tournament, the 36 Conference promises to be the essential information gathering and networking opportunity of 2004. Scheduled guest speakers are: Anthony Cheng of Singapore Press Holdings and Alan Pidcock from The Birmingham News, speaking on ‘Waste, Quality and Colorliner Cold Start-up’ and ‘Newsprint Waste Savings’, respectively. Russ Christensen, President of the Metro User’s Group comments, “The Metro Users Group is the largest newspaper users’ organization in the world, and our annual meeting provides a unique forum for the free and candid exchange of information, ideas, questions and problem-solving. With over 500 delegates from the United States, Canada, Latin America and as far away as Singapore, last year’s Conference was a runaway success. “We anticipate the same success for the 36th Conference in Houston and are looking forward to hearing the ideas and opinions of our members that will serve to benefit the newspaper publishing industry as a whole.” The Metro User’s Group was formed in America in 1968 to allow the sharing of knowledge of leading-edge newspaper production techniques. Since its founding, the Group has expanded to embrace Goss double width models including Metro, Metro-Offset, Metroliner, Cosmo-Offset, Headliner, Colorliner and Newsliner, as well as the single width Universal range. The Metro User’s Group has contributed greatly to driving change and growth in offset newspaper production in America and around the world. Places for the Metro Users Annual Golf Tournament – to be held at the Kingwood Country Club on Saturday, February 28, 2004 – are limited and will be allocated on a first-come basis.
