MEI Portico Authentication Powers DOCMINE Videobooks iPad App

Press release from the issuing company

Swiss filmmaker quickly deploys branded storefront with Adobe DPS entitlements

Jenkintown, PA -? Managing Editor Inc. (MEI) today announced DOCMINE Production’s release of its iPad app, “Die Schweizer,” powered by MEI Portico? and Adobe® Digital Publishing Suite?. The Swiss documentary video company’s app features a Portico-delivered branded storefront that includes user authentication integrated seamlessly with the Adobe app-producing platform.

DOCMINE's app shows historical milestones of Switzerland in a new dimension, with mobile content that supports the widely discussed "Die Schweizer" project of SRG, the Swiss radio and television company. The app presents a selection of "videobooks" ? interactive folios of articles and multimedia ? that tell the story of Swiss trailblazers who played historic roles at key points in the history of the country. Presented in German, French and Italian, the app accompanies the documentary series airing this month on all national TV stations in Switzerland.

DOCMINE, the first Portico customer in Switzerland, chose MEI Portico to rapidly deploy a branded storefront for the app. A key requirement was support for direct entitlement ? DOCMINE wanted a way to offer specific users complimentary access to the videobooks at the same time that it offers the content for sale to the public through in-app purchases.

DOCMINE and MEI teamed with Topix, the DPS and Portico reseller in Switzerland, to develop companion websites for capturing user registrations into the Portico database. Built with Adobe DPS and Portico, the finished solution links sponsor websites, entitlement mechanisms, and rich content into an interactive multimedia experience for mobile devices. The project was completed ? from the start of app production to releasing a live app to the iTunes App Store ? in just a matter of weeks.

"We were eager to publish the app in conjunction with airing of the TV series, and had very little time," said Ninetta Roggli, production manager at DOCMINE. "Portico was a great fit for our current needs and gives us a platform for future projects. We look forward to producing more apps like this for other clients."
