Watkiss Automation Ltd, the leading manufacturer of print finishing and booklet making systems, has announced the launch of the new PowerSquare™ 224 book maker.

Designed and manufactured in the UK by Watkiss, the PowerSquare 224 book maker is a complete booklet making solution for digital printers.  It is engineered for the digital production environment where it will produce stitched, SquareBack books up to 224 pages thick.  It follows on from the success of its predecessor, the PowerSquare 200.

Paul Attew, Sales Director at Watkiss comments on the new product:  “The PowerSquare 224 is an exciting introduction.  It brings greater automation to the booklet making process without any compromises to quality; and it has been optimized for the production environment, handling both black & white and colour output with ease.

Watkiss has increased the specification of this model to include a larger online sheet size

(14.37” x 19.69”), an increased book thickness (10.4mm) and a higher average monthly production volume (50,000 books).  The paper path through the machine has been enhanced to optimize performance with the high quality papers used in colour digital print applications. The machine also features a new dynamic auto?adjustment system that ensures quality performance regardless of book thickness, allowing uninterrupted running when streaming jobs, or when printing variable content documents that have different page?counts.  Uniquely, the PowerSquare 224 produces a perfect stitch regardless of whether the book has 2 pages or 224 pages, without operator intervention.

Sydney Stone Managing Director Michael Steele stated, “This Watkiss product and the previous PowerSquare 200 fall in line with what our customers frequently are searching for, a differentiating finishing solution. Booklets can be produced by a variety of different finishing devices but only the Watkiss PowersSquare 224 can produce a booklet up to 10.4mm thick with a square spine. This replicates the perfect bound look, packs much more easily and with the wire stitch binding is stronger than a perfect bound book.”
