Ricoh and Documentum Provide a Complete Capture and Management Solution

Press release from the issuing company

WEST CALDWELL, NEW JERSEY--Momentum Trade Show 2003 -- Ricoh Corporation, the leading provider of digital office equipment, and Documentum, the leading content management provider for e-business, today announced the integration of Ricoh's GlobalScan solution into Documentum's enterprise content management system. This integration will be showcased in the Ricoh Booth (#114) at the Momentum Trade Show, which highlights the latest advancements in enterprise content management and collaboration, from November 9-12, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in New Orleans, Louisiana. The ability to provide simple, intuitive methods to input documents and their metadata into a system is essential for effective document management. GlobalScan and Ricoh's Aficio Multifunction Products (MFPs) are able to provide a simple, intuitive method for paper-based documents, and metadata. Once those documents are added to Documentum, they will benefit from a complete set of underlying core services such as workflow, version control and conversion services, as well as enhanced security and permission features. In addition, the Ricoh Aficio MFP that serves as an input device to get your paper-based documents into the Documentum can also print documents from the Documentum repository. One GlobalScan Server can support up to 100 Ricoh Aficio MFPs with simultaneous access to the Documentum Content Repository. Scanner, copier, printer and fax operations are all combined into one Ricoh Aficio office machine, saving organizations the high cost of multiple desktop scanners. Additional benefits of integrating GlobalScan with Documentum include improved business process and information flow, increased productivity and enhanced security. "The seamless integration between GlobalScan and Documentum will provide invaluable benefits to organizations as they seek to streamline business applications across their entire enterprise," said Hede Nonaka, Vice President of Marketing for Ricoh Corporation. GlobalScan will provide direct access to Documentum's enterprise content management solution from the LCD panel of the Ricoh Aficio MFP. The GlobalScan Connector for Documentum will allow users to quickly and easily introduce paper-based documents, from the Ricoh Aficio MFP LCD panel directly into Documentum. Additionally, the Connector will allow users to login to the Documentum Content Management repository, directly from the MFP panel, and scan, index and route documents to a specific database. Key features supported on the MFP panel include: -- Access to Documentum from the MFP panel. Users simply enter their username and password, which is authenticated against Documentum's user lists and dynamically supports user rights. -- Simple scanning to "My Cabinet" for quick and easy upload of documents for processing and the ability to scan a document as a new version of an existing document. -- Delivery of documents as searchable PDF's so they can be located quickly using Documentum's full text search capabilities. -- Ownership of the document since it is automatically assigned to the user authenticated on the MFP to enable tracking and reporting within Documentum. The GlobalScan Connector for Documentum will be available on November 10, 2003.
